Keep a running tab of ongoing expenses

Instead of settling every single thing, let it run. The tab tracks the difference between what you have covered and what they have.

Letting it run is usually the better default with anyone you see often. Sending $8 back and forth every few days is a lot of transfers to arrive at roughly where you started.

When something does get paid outside the app, mark it paid so the balance stays true.

The tab is a difference rather than a debt, and it moves in both directions. Cover the next dinner and it swings your way without anyone doing anything about it.

The detail stays available underneath, so letting it run never means losing track of what it is made of.
